Sandro Tonali has been linked with an exit from Newcastle United repeatedly since he joined the Magpies, with the Italian media convinced he’ll return sooner or later.

His agent has denied the talk about a potential transfer but speculation has never gone away in the Italian press.

Some days ago, Juventus were mentioned as a potential candidate to land the Italian and they see him as a target for the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old midfielder spoke to La Repubblica this week in a detailed interview and was asked about his future at Newcastle United.

When speaking about a potential return to AC Milan, he said: The experience in England didn’t just enrich me financially. I grew up and discovered a new country, a new football and a new language. The idea of returning to AC Milan one day is there, but it’s not the thought when I wake up in the morning.”

Tonali was also asked about the links with a move to Juventus and he was quite clear about his stance.

He said: “Juventus? I’ve never spoken about it with my agents. And I know, from experience, that if you don’t get to that point, there’s nothing concrete. And anyway I’m fine with myself here.”

Tonali told the Italian newspaper about hi big ambition with Newcastle United this season.

“I’ve found my line and there’s no point in upsetting it again. I want to win for the Newcastle fans, soon we’ll have our first chance at Wembley.”

Tonali is enjoying football and playing at his best again, which will be a big relief to him after the lengthy ban.

He’s played 32 times in all competitions this season and has played consistently in defensive midfield, showing his off-the-ball abilities.

If the Magpies win the Carabao Cup, they would not just taste silverware, but they will also qualify for the Europa League and this can help them keep players like Tonali for the long-term.

That will go a long way to shutting down speculation about a return to Italy… although certainly won’t end it.
