Mateo Joseph made his Premier League debut for Leeds United at the weekend, coming on at the end of the club’s 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 19-year-old is receiving coverage in the Spanish media, and earlier today we covered the possibility of him choosing to represent England at international level instead of Spain.
Joseph signed for Leeds United in January of this year, moving from Espanyol where his contract was coming to an end. La Grada, specialists on the Barcelona club, state that he had a €1.5m release clause at the time but was able to sign for the Whites for a third of that.
One of those clauses related to Joseph’s Premier League debut, and whilst that may now be due it’s not thought to be a big amount. Better for Espanyol is the clause they have for a sell-on percentage, so the hope for them would be a quick rise for the youngster and then a sale.
