Despite losing for the first time at their new stadium to West Ham in the Premier League, Tottenham’s mistake was never punished by fellow top four hopefuls, as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United also all dropped points at the weekend, some in more spectacular fashion than others.
With just two games to go, Mauricio Pochettino’s men still have a four point advantage on fifth placed Arsenal, and remain best placed to clinch Champions League football next season.
However, as well as fighting for that top four spot, they have two games against Ajax in the aforementioned elite European competition to navigate, meaning they might have to prioritise at some point.
Either way, with two barren transfer windows behind him, it’s fair to say their Argentine manager has once again worked miracles in north London, and his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.
As well as reported interest from Milan earlier this month, Pochettino is being followed closely by another Serie A team: Inter.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Luciano Spalletti, despite his team sitting third in the league, appears to be heading for the exit door, and the club like the Tottenham manager ‘quite a lot’.
However, they are also aware how difficult it will be to convince both him and his board to part ways with each other.
Other names, such as José Mourinho and Antonio Conte, continue to float, but Pochettino is the latest to appear on the list of prospective candidates.
This is unlikely to lead anywhere, but if, for some reason, the former Argentina international feels like a change of scenery in the coming months, Inter will be waiting with open arms.
