This could very well be Aaron Ramsey’s last season in Italy.
Swapping Arsenal for Juventus on a free transfer, the Welshman has enjoyed a mixed bag of success in Turin without ever fully breaking out as a regular starter.
This season has been no different, but with a contract expiring in 2023, this could be the best time to sell him, with Tottenham Hotspur a surprise destination mentioned by Gazzetta dello Sport for the former Arsenal man.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Wales international sent to Spurs, with a couple of articles from various Italian websites cropping up here and there in the past few months, but it is the first time we’ve seen it in one of the big newspapers.
Gazzetta look at the situation of both Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot, with the two former free transfers potentially capable of bringing in €50m or so in the summer.
There’s no guarantee of sale, as ‘much will depend on the occasions that arise’, but ‘in case of tempting offers in the summer, both midfielders can say goodbye to the squad’.
While Rabiot could end up either at Everton or back in Ligue 1, Ramsey ‘is more likely to return to the Premier League’, where Tottenham and Wolverhampton Wanderers are both mentioned.
Whether this is a José Mourinho request or simply something Daniel Levy has in mind to stick two fingers up to his club’s arch rivals isn’t said, but it would be a bold transfer move from the midfielder, who spent 11 years at Arsenal before leaving in 2019.
Then again, he wouldn’t be the first to play for both clubs either.
