Barcelona ‘want to close the signing’ of Manchester City star İlkay Gündoğan as soon as possible, according to Mundo Deportivo.
After missing out on Lionel Messi, the La Liga side are focusing on bringing the 32-year-old to the Camp Nou as he’s a ‘clear target’ for Xavi Hernández.
His contract at Manchester City expires this month and the La Liga side have offered him a three-year deal.
It’s said the Catalan club want to give the ‘final push’ to the operation and ‘that happens by closing the operation in the next few days or, if possible, in the next few hours’.
At the same time, Manchester City haven’t given up as Mundo state Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘pressing him’ to sign a new deal.
Barca are ‘calm’ about the situation because the German has reportedly informed those close to him about his desire to join the Spanish giants.
Mundo’s optimism isn’t shared by AS, who state Barcelona ‘don’t trust’ Manchester City in the ‘fight for Gündoğan’.
They state Xavi’s side ‘fear’ that Manchester City could retain him ‘at the last minute’ and this could only happen if he agrees to renew his contract at the Etihad.
Barca’s economic conditions are delicate and AS say it could force the player to rethink his position.
His focus is on the Champions League final against Inter Milan on Saturday and facing Colombia with Germany on Tuesday.
In between these two games, the report suggests he could make a decision on his future.
