Ajax are eyeing a move to bring Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld back to the club this summer.
That’s according to Voetbal 24, who explain that the Dutch giants’ plans have ruined Club Brugge’s hopes of signing the Belgian.
Alderweireld has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, having fallen down the pecking order under previous manager Jose Mourinho.
Brugge are known to be keen, but recent reports stated that Alderweireld has knocked them back, believing he can force his way back into Tottenham’s plans now Mourinho is gone.
Voetbal 24 now pick up on that and state that Brugge’s plans were scuppered because Ajax want to bring Alderweireld back to the club.
According to Dutch sources, the Eredivisie giants are looking for defensive reinforcements and are thinking of both Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez, another of their former players.
The former is the more ‘realistic’ for them to get with it claimed that Alderweireld’s love for the club could be ‘the deciding factor’.
That would make things as ‘good as hopeless’ for Brugge, who, it seems, really need to find someone else to target.
