A couple of days ago, we covered a story from A Bola which explained Bruno Fernandes’ transfer to Manchester United could end up being investigated by Fifa.
The report said Sporting are trying to avoid paying 10% of the money to his former club Sampdoria, and in case the clubs didn’t find an agreement, then the case could end up in court.
Well, now it seems it didn’t take long for an outcome. Because according to newspaper O Jogo today, Sampdoria are indeed going to Fifa for their money.
It’s said the clubs had been in talks about the pending amount, but the lack of an agreement have convinced the Serie A side they have to make it a legal battle.
Sporting paid €8.5m to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sampdoria in 2017, giving the Italian side 10% of a future profit.
In 2018, when Lions players were attacked at the Alcochete training centre, several of them rescinded their contracts with the club, including Bruno Fernandes. A month later, he agreed a new deal with them as a free agent.
So when selling the midfielder to Manchester United in a €55m move in January 2020, Sporting believed that the current contract was the one he signed as a free agent, being able to avoid any past clauses they had with Sampdoria.
But the Serie A side don’t think it’s legal.
Following the amounts mentioned, Sampdoria believe they have the right to €4.6m from Bruno Fernandes’ transfer to the Red Devils.
