Royale Union Saint-Gilloise will have an ‘extra weapon’ when they face Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday.

That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad, who state the Jupiler Pro League side will travel to England with ‘confidence’ after sealing victories in their last two games.

It’s explained that Union Saint-Gilloise have discovered a ‘new weapon’ in their last win over Charleroi and will use it against Liverpool.

Union Saint-Gilloise ‘perfectly executed’ tactics to score from both a free-kick and corner against Charleroi and it was the first time this season they have managed to score from set pieces, barring penalties.

The Belgian club have trained a lot on this and it paid off at the weekend, and the outlet says this is the ‘new weapon’ discovered for the clash against Liverpool.

Even though it’s ‘unrealistic’ for Union to beat Jürgen Klopp’s side, the report states set pieces can provide an opportunity for the visitors to get a draw at Anfield on Thursday.

Union manager Alexander Blessin has admitted his side were already thinking of Liverpool when they faced Charleroi.

“The high temperature during this period of the year played tricks on us and we were sometimes a bit too lazy and too sleepy. Liverpool were already in our heads,” he said.

“It will be something different against fantastic players like Konaté and Matip. Although, maybe Matip will score another own goal like this weekend [against Tottenham Hotspur]. Then we have a chance. Why not?”

The Union Saint-Gilloise manager also admitted the clash against Liverpool is a ‘dream’ tie for both him and his players.

“When I was still coach of Leipzig U19, we once played against Liverpool U19 in the preparation,” Blessin explained.

“We then visited Anfield and the museum. I sent a video to my wife of myself in the stadium, saying that it would be a dream to play there one day. Five years later the time has come. If it is so special for me, I can imagine it is the same for my players.”
