Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese has poured cold water on a potential move from Tottenham for striker Santiago Giménez despite reports of their interest.

Te Kloese has been speaking to ESPN, relayed by 1908.nl, regarding the situation around the Mexican striker amid claims Tottenham are looking at him as a replacement for Harry Kane.

Kane has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer and is seemingly keen on the move to Bavaria as well.

His departure would leave a huge hole that Tottenham would have to fill and a report earlier this week from Mexico claimed Tottenham were planning to offer €40m for Giménez to get him as a replacement.

That report stated that Spurs had already met the player’s agents already to discuss a potential move, although the player’s father later dampened down such talk and insisted they had received no proposals at this point in time.

There is always time for that to change of course, particularly if Kane does end up leaving Tottenham, but even if they do make a bid, Feyenoord aren’t interested.

“Yes,” Te Kloese stated confidently when asked if Giménez will play for Feyenoord next season.

“We have a long-term contract with him. I also honestly think, and I have known him for a long time, that it is best for him, from me, to gain experience here and play in the Champions League.

“In an ideal situation, Gimenez is just a Feyenoord player. We must not lose sight of reality. Our players have positioned themselves fantastically in the past year.

“But we are working on something very special in the sporting field. With the Johan Cruijff Scale, playing for prizes and the Champions League. Players realise that they can also take steps here.”
