On June 6th, Mundo Deportivo reported Barcelona are looking for ‘minimum four signings’, out of which two are to strengthen attacking positions.
The La Liga winners are looking to bring in a forward who can play alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is a target for Barcelona, and ‘Plan B Is Rashford’ is splashed on the front page of today’s edition of Sport.
The leaders of the Spanish champions are working on the ‘Rashford option’ and have already ‘contacted’ the Red Devils to probe the chances of signing the 21-year-old.
It’s claimed the England international is a versatile forward, who can fit perfectly into Ernesto Valverde’s system.
Despite being just 21 years of age, he has the experience of playing at the highest level for Manchester United. At the Camp Nou, they believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s striker would adapt very well if he joins them.
The Catalan newspaper claims good relations between Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu and United vice-chairman Ed Woodward can help the operation move forward.
Last summer, the Blaugrana tried to sign Paul Pogba and Bartomeu warned it would be practically impossible for them to land the Frenchman. It turned out to be true.
Similarly, the operation to sign Rashford will be complex for Barca, mainly because United is a buyer and not a seller.
In addition to this, the cost of the operation will be around €100m, even though his contract at Old Trafford runs down in 2020.
Sport explains Rashford is a ‘symbol’ of Manchester United, and this, coupled with the above mentioned reasons, would make it difficult for Barcelona to sign him.
This one doesn’t seem so serious… yet.
