There appears to be some movement in Manchester City’s negotiations with Juventus for Kalvin Phillips this week.
Corriere dello Sport give the latest update on Tuesday, explaining that the Serie A side ‘had to hear’ from their Premier League counterparts ‘before Christmas’ to have some progress, and that’s what happened.
The newspaper reveal that the ‘latest contacts’ took place through intermediaries, and ‘trust has grown’ as the Italians are ‘constantly pressing’ to get Max Allegri the midfielder he needs in January following the bans of Nicolo Fagioli and Paul Pogba.
Juventus will use the next few days to ‘reduce the final distances’ with Manchester City regarding the formula and the ‘payment of the player’s salary’.
The Turin based club can only do a loan in January, but have been working alongside the Cityzens ‘for weeks’ to finally get their approval.
That’s something Manchester City don’t want, as it would reinforce a direct rival, which gives the Italians a much needed advantage against clubs who can pay more money.
A bit of compromise on both sides, and this could quickly get done, by the looks of things.
