Filipe Melo’s situation at Sheffield Wednesday is once again up in the air. Spending the second half of the season at Paços Ferreira, Melo isn’t short of interest in Portugal, although he’s keen to see if he has a Sheffield Wednesday future.

Saturday’s edition of A Bola reports that Chaves are very keen on the player, and the Portuguese newspaper even says Chaves are ‘close to securing’ a deal which would see Melo arrive at the club on loan for next season.

That may come as news to the player.

Sport Witness’ Lucas Sposito spoke to Melo’s agent on Friday, and Carlos Neto gave an update on what he sees as Melo’s current situation.

“I still don’t know Sheffield Wednesday’s decision,” Neto told Sport Witness.

Melo’s agent also revealed there’s “some medium clubs who have no resources to pay the salary he earns at Sheffield Wednesday”, and the midfielder “wants to stay England if to be used regularly”.

Chaves may be confident, but it doesn’t sound like the move would be Melo’s first choice.
