Over the weekend, rumours emerged that Newcastle United were thinking about hiring Ramón Planes as their new technical secretary.
The news came from Marca, who explained the Magpies were thinking of the then-Barcelona chief, and were now one of the ‘possible destinations’ for him.
In fact, ‘contact’ had allegedly been made, and now Newcastle have a free shot at him without having to deal with Barcelona.
That’s because the La Liga side announced on Tuesday that they had reached an agreement with the 54-year-old about rescinding his contract early, giving him time to mull over other offers.

Planes’ contract was originally meant to end in June of 2022, but it appears, with Xavi recently appointed and Barcelona ready to give him everything he wants, that the Catalan side were more than happy to part ways with their technical director.
That now leaves the door open for Newcastle, who clearly have an interest and can now freely chat with him about what he could bring to St James’ Park should be appointed.
