Borussia Mönchengladbach director of football Roland Virkus has admitted they will sit down with Yann Sommer after his World Cup break to discuss his future amid interest from Manchester United.

Sommer is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning he is free to negotiate a free transfer for next summer from January 1st.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move over the last few weeks, with it claimed that they are viewing the Switzerland star as the replacement for David de Gea.

They appear to be keen on him moving to Old Trafford next summer, with it made clear today that they are ‘very interested’ in a deal but at the moment a move in January is not being discussed.

That has now been confirmed by Virkus, who says he plans to sit down and discuss the issue with the Manchester United target after his holiday following the World Cup.

“No, I don’t think so,” he told BILD when asked is ‘top clubs’ might question a move following Switzerland’s 6-1 loss to Portugal.

“Whoever wants to sign Yann will watch him over a long period of time and know how strong he is. But I like to emphasise that we are in good talks with him.

“When he comes back after the World Cup holiday, we will sit down together further. From our point of view, a transfer of Yann in the winter is also not an issue at all.”
