Unable to make room for himself in Tottenham’s squad under Antonio Conte, Harry Winks had to find first-team football elsewhere for the first time in his career.

He wasn’t sold by Spurs, but the midfielder was sent to Sampdoria on loan, where he was hoping to play regularly in a new environment.

An ankle injury put an early stop to that, however, and the Tottenham man has yet to make an appearance for the Serie A side this season.

He even had surgery on his leg to ensure that he could recover in time for the second half of the campaign, and it appears the timeline is working in his favour.

According to Calciomercato, the Tottenham midfielder was part of the Sampdoria group of players who flew to Turkey as part of their tour of friendlies during the World Cup.

They headed to Antalya, and Winks ‘wanted to give a signal to show how much about he cares about returning to the field’.

In fact, it was the Tottenham man who ‘insisted on leaving for Turkey with the team’, just so he could get accommodated with his teammates ahead of hopefully playing alongside them.
