Real Betis are ‘celebrating’ Alex Moreno’s decision to reject Nottingham Forest this summer, even though it would have freed up much-needed funds.

That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, who say there was ‘sporting relief’ at the Spanish club following the player’s choice.

Moreno was heavily linked with a move to Nottingham Forest this summer, with Steve Cooper’s side spending heavily to improve Steve Cooper’s squad for their return to the Premier League.

An offer was submitted and quickly rejected by Betis, who were open to a sale amid a need to raise funds this summer.

They need to sell before they can buy or register new signings and would have reluctantly sold Moreno for the right price to help that.

A potential move to Nottingham Forest quickly fell away, though, as Moreno publicly dismissed talk about his future and insisted he would staying at Betis.

And it seems that decision was warmly welcomed by the Spanish club. Diario de Sevilla report they are ‘celebrating’ Moreno’s decision as they believe he will be ‘very important’ for Manuel Pellegrini next season.

While any deal would have freed up space to sign other players, the feeling is that Betis would have struggled to find a replacement who comes close to Moreno.

Thus, Moreno’s decision was ‘received with some sporting relief’ by the Betis hierarchy, who were seemingly concerned about losing a key player and having to replace him.
