West Ham United’s Issa Diop is back on Napoli’s transfer agenda, years after they failed to take him in 2018.
The Serie A side looked at the centre-back when he was Toulouse, before the Hammers beat them for his signature.
His deal at West Ham United expires in 2023 and Area Napoli explain the 25-year-old is a market ‘opportunity’ for the Italian club.
Luciano Spalletti and the Naples club’s leaders like the France international, and he could be an option if Kalidou Koulibaly refuses to sign the new deal.
The latter earns €6m per year and Napoli want to reduce it to €4m plus bonuses, by offering him a deal until 2026.
The defender can leave West Ham United for a ‘relatively small outlay’.
It’s claimed that he is ‘offered today for a figure not far from €15m’. This isn’t expensive, considering Diop still has a long future ahead of him.
Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli would appreciate having someone like Diop and their manager tried to sign David Moyes’ man, when he was at Inter Milan.
According to the report, the ‘biggest problem’ is the Frenchman’s salary, as he earns more than €4m per year and will have to take a pay cut to arrive in Italy.
Napoli are aware of this, just like Lazio, who consider the West Ham United player as an alternative to Nicolò Casale and Alessio Romagnoli.
