When European giants decide to sign South American starlets, it’s always a tough job for clubs to hold these players.
This is the case of Velez Sarsfield, who’ve been seeing one of their biggest prospects, Thiago Almada, getting linked to several sides.
Manchester United have been one of the latest clubs to be added to the list, with the English press saying the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants more young stars in the squad.
The Argentine version of ESPN brings today a story with Velez Sarsfield’s take on the situation, and given the big competition, the club think there’s no way they can hold the 19-year-old.
ESPN spoke to a member from Velez Sarsfield’s board who said: “There’s no way to hold him. To all the offers that are seen in the media, add one from the local market and two from Italy.”
“We’re going to wait for the market to open so that we know what is real and who’s asking, and we’ll be as serious at the negotiating table as we have been since this administration began.”
Thiago Almada is currently protected by a release clause of €22m. Even though that may not be necessary to take him out of Argentina, the number of interested clubs makes it clear he won’t be a cheap player.
