For the past couple of weeks, Portuguese side Benfica have been heavily linked to the Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
With the Dutchman looking for a way out of Camp Nou, the Eagles have reportedly been in talks to see if it’s possible to sign the 30-year-old this summer.
And today, surprising claims from Record says the Eagles could have some heavy competition for the goalkeeper. That would be from Manchester United.
The newspaper says the Red Devils could sell David De Gea in the next transfer window, and in case it happens, Cillessen is one of the names on the list of those who could replace the Spaniard at Old Trafford.
However, claims from newspaper O Jogo today show that it won’t be an easy task for the Eagles. Besides the demands of €25m from Barcelona, there are also the issues that Cillessen wants to make the same €2.5m per season as he does in Catalunya, and would like to continue his career in a more competitive league than Liga NOS.
It’s worth pointing out that Duncan Castles had an exclusive story about Man United’s interest in Cillessen on Thursday night, but Record don’t credit the journalist, saying they’ve learned from their own sources that Benfica know about the competition.
