Steven Defour is currently working on getting fit to return to the pitch, but that hasn ‘t stopped him from being linked with a move away from Burnley.
On August 15th, Het Laatste Nieuws reported Antwerp were in talks with the midfielder for a transfer.
A day later, the same newspaper stated the Jupiler Pro League side are aware the Clarets are not in a ‘strong position’, mainly due to the 31-year-old’s contract that expires in 2020.
It was also explained there was more chance of a deal being concluded at the end of the European transfer window.
Within the story, they explain a potential transfer remains an ‘overpriced affair’.
The overall cost of the operation (transfer fee plus player’s wages) makes Antwerp’s management reluctant. Therefore, ‘at the moment Defour is not coming’ to Antwerp.
With the window closing on September 2nd, Burnley have a short time to cash in from Defour’s sale in order to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.
