Portuguese newspaper Record comes up with a full page story today about West Ham’s chase for Porto attacker Moussa Marega.
With a headline and a subheading saying Manuel Pellegrini is wondering about paying for the player’s release clause, it initially sounds like a big exclusive from the outlet.
But what Record are actually doing is to cover the news from The Sun, who yesterday claimed that the Hammers have joined Chelsea in the race for Marega.
The Sun called the competition a ‘£35m race’, and Record immediately took this as a battle to pay for the striker’s €40m release clause.
Record has a few things to say about the situation. First one is: there’s competition from the Premier League, with Everton, Tottenham, Chelsea and Wolverhampton all interested in Marega.
The player himself is pretty much keen on moving to England, something he publicly admitted not long ago.
The problem is that Porto reportedly have no intention to negotiate, so any of these clubs want Marega this summer, his €40m release clause needs to be paid.
West Ham, like several Premier League clubs, have been repeatedly linked to Moussa Marega for a while.
