Ousmane Dembélé picked up an injury while with France at the Euros and is expected to return to action in November. His contract at Barcelona expires in 2022.
The 24-year-old hasn’t been linked, as often as he had been anyway, to Manchester United since they bolstered their attack by signing Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
ElNacional now bring a fresh report on the winger, stating United ‘appear by surprise to take’ the player away from the Camp Nou.
It’s said Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have taken an interest in the ex-Borussia Dortmund man, after looking at him in the summer. The report says the Old Trafford club ‘have already contacted’ the Frenchman’s entourage to ‘start negotiating his future’.
Manchester United are looking at the attacker mainly because he will be available on a free transfer next summer. Barca want to retain him and have held talks with his representatives. Despite this, the Premier League side ‘do not give up’ and are still interested to sign him.
Mundo Deportivo also claim the La Liga side would like to extend Dembélé’s contract until 2024.
Two days ago, El Partidazo de COPE reported Barca officials met Dembélé and his agent, Moussa Sissoko, to discuss the renewal.
These claims are relayed by Mundo and they add recent meetings between the two parties ‘were cordial’. Barcelona are optimistic the wideman will sign a new deal at the club.
Mundo Deportivo’s report conflicts ElNacional claims and also dismisses United’s chances of taking Dembélé.
In addition to this, the English club have the attacking position covered, so it doesn’t make sense for them to look at the player, unless they’re planning for the exit of another.
