A couple of days ago it was reported by Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã that Everton, along with West Ham, are preparing a €30m offer for Raul Jimenez.
It wasn’t the first time an Everton offer has been alleged for the Mexican, with previous claims suggesting Ronald Koeman’s side were even prepared to pay €45m.
That seemed like nonsense, because Jimenez simply isn’t worth anything like €45m. Benfica’s asking price at one stage was €50m, having been encouraged by a big offer from China, but if they want to sell the Mexican before the window closes then a much lower fee is needed.
Even a €30m offer from Everton would seem over the top, but perhaps there’s some truth in general interest.
Jimenez is very much a bench player for Benfica, which further doubts their lofty transfer prices.
Everton aren’t one of the Premier League club who most frequently scout Benfica, but they have picked up their general Portuguese scouting since Koeman, a former Benfica manager himself, took over.
