Cesc Fabregas to AC Milan has been a recurring story since Antonio Conte took over from Guus Hiddink at Chelsea, and it just doesn’t want to go away.

Vincenzo Montella has already said he wasn’t really interested in bringing the Spaniard to the San Siro, yet the Italian media are constantly refusing to let it drop, adamant the interest really is there.

Gazzetta dello Sport are the culprits on Thursday in their paper edition as they look at possible signings the Chinese investors could look at in January following the takeover completion from Silvio Berlusconi.

The Italian newspaper say the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder would be the ‘renowned objective’ for the club to pursue, even with his high wages.

What appears to have changed from previous stories is that Li Yonghong would now be prepared to pay the player’s salary.

The wages were always the problem in past versions of this story, and with Fabregas only playing 87 minutes of football in the Premier League so far this season, a move elsewhere would make sense.

Antonio Conte has made it clear the player isn’t going anywhere and is needed, but that remains hard to believe if he doesn’t actually play him.
