Chelsea are pushing to sign striker Emmanuel Emegha from RC Strasbourg after his performances in France this season.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that Emegha is ‘very popular’ internally at Stamford Bridge and they are now pushing to sign him from their sister club.

The Blues want to add a striker to their squad, feeling that they lack a true number nine and the search became a priority with the club’s structure early in the spring.

The most fashionable strikers have been linked in recent weeks but there is fierce competition for them and that has led Chelsea to look elsewhere.

The one name that has ‘gained momentum’ is Emegha’s, who has been making waves with Strasbourg this season after a mixed first season at the club. He’s the fifth highest scorer in Ligue 1, with 14 goals to his name.

He also has significant room for improvement and Chelsea have been impressed by his performances. They believe he belongs with the Blues.

Discussions have already taken place between the player and the Blues regarding a long-term contract. Negotiations between the two sides should not be problematic thanks to both clubs being owed by BlueCo and the various transactions between them already.

The terms of a deal remain to be determined but will presumably be higher than the €13m that Strasbourg paid to sign him.

Emegha, for his part, has never hidden his desire to play in the Premier League, especially at Chelsea. He believes it could provide him with a pathway to the Dutch national side, which so far continues to ignore him.
