With just one game left to play for this season, Chelsea will soon get the chance to focus fully on the transfer market.
One of the players who will be looking to make an impression in the Champions League final will be Olivier Giroud, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires next month.
The striker will then be free to choose his next club, unless he renews at Chelsea, which the club are considering, and Milan are among those keen on his services.
Gazzetta dello Sport look at this on Tuesday, as the Serie A side’s qualification for the Champions League has opened a few more doors for them on the transfer market.
The newspaper explain Giroud’s name is among ‘the hottest’ in both the corridors of the Milanese football club and those of the Elliott London offices.
Seen as ‘tactically perfect’ for Stefano Pioli and co., the France international would have to share the limelight with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Gazzetta say ‘that won’t be a problem’.
Furthermore, there would be no cost in bringing him to Italy, since he is a free agent, only affecting their wage budget by €4-5m for the next two years.
It makes sense, and it could all rest on whether or not Milan tickles Giroud’s fancy.
If it doesn’t, then Paolo Maldini will have to look elsewhere.
