With European clubs now trying to sign South American prospects as young as possible, it seems Chelsea are looking to beat the competition at a specific place.

Journalist Jorge Nicola today reports that the Blues made an offer for Santos to have the priority over all athletes from the club’s academy.

It’s said Chelsea would like to spend a ‘high amount’, even though the numbers aren’t revealed, and would have to be made aware of all offers for the Peixe’s youngsters, having the option to match the bid and taking them to London.

Nicola claims his news were dismissed by Santos president Andrés Rueda, who says there are no negotiations of that type.

Still, the journalist claims his sources are very good and will give it the benefit of the doubt.

Santos’ academy is well known for revealing many of Brazil’s most promising players.

Since 2010, we’ve already seen the likes of Neymar, Ganso, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Emerson Palmieri, Gabigol, Kaio Jorge and Rodrygo.

Now there should be more to come, with Angelo and Marcos Leonardo already succeeding in the first team.

Back in 2010, Chelsea were the ones who who tried to bring Neymar to Europe when he was just 18.

The Brazilian club, however, turned down the Blues’ offer and held onto him until 2013, when he left for Barcelona.
