N’Golo Kanté is once again in Real Madrid’s sights, with it believed Chelsea may sell the Frenchman this summer to fund their lavish rebuild.
AS report that Kanté ‘appears again on the horizon’ for the Spanish giants, having long been a target for Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.
They explain that midfielder is ‘on the market’ with Roman Abramovich’s plan to renew Chelsea requiring a ‘great investment’ that will see high-profile players like Kanté departing Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea, of course, have already been busy in this transfer window, securing the signing of Hakim Ziyech as well as being close to a deal for Timo Werner.
They have also been linked with a big-money move for Kai Havertz, a deal that, like the other two, would require a significant outlay in a period where the Coronavirus outbreak has struck finances.
So far it’s been believed that Abramovich was bankrolling the deals himself, particularly after saving money last summer when Chelsea were still restricted by a transfer ban put in place by FIFA.
However, AS argue that the opposite is, in fact, true and their investment requires them to ‘review their salaries’ and consider selling some of their big-name players.
Kanté is at the top of that list. He has a deal until 2023 worth £7.8m per year, a significant sum and one that has led to him being ‘listed’ by the club.
Madrid are long time admirers, having considered moving for him in 2016 before he moved to Chelsea from Leicester.
Like Paul Pogba, Zidane has a ‘longing’ to see him in his midfield but at the moment his asking price, around €80m, is ‘unattainable’.
Naturally, they are not the only ones keeping an eye on how things develop.
Juventus and PSG have also been ‘vigilant’ to the situation, with it believed that this could be his ‘moment’ to secure a move.
