Chelsea are yet to exercise their purchase option on Sassuolo striker Jérémie Boga, and he will likely remain in Serie A this summer.

Boga has been in good form for the Italians this season, with eight goals and four assists in 25 games to his name so far.

He has subsequently been linked with several big sides around Europe, although much will rest on what Chelsea decide to do.

They have an option to bring Boga back to Stamford Bridge, having included a repurchase clause in the original deal that took him to Sassuolo in 2018.

It has been suggested they would exercise that clause, with Frank Lampard set for a busy summer now that Chelsea are free to make signings after their ban was overturned.

Boga would be a welcome addition to a frontline that has struggled in recent months, particularly as both Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi look set to depart this summer.

That, though, is unlikely to happen, at least if Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Carlo Laudisa is to be believed.

He was discussing Napoli’s plans for the summer on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli as they’ve also been linked with Boga, and it seems Chelsea won’t be signing their former player.

“It’s not just the blues (Napoli), he’s (Matteo Pessina) a tactically adaptable guy who in Gattuso’s 4-3-3 could do the high outside too,” he told the station, relayed by CalcioNapoli 1926.

“If he doesn’t make it back to Atalanta by the end of the loan, there will be a lot of teams on him.

“Boga is from Sassuolo, in the last few weeks at Carnevali he was planning a trip to London to clarify certain aspects with Chelsea, which so far has never exercised a preemption.

“I believe that his words confirm the most likely scenario, that is, his stay in Serie A.

“We’ll see who Naples will choose between the two, they are very different and would not arrive together.”
