Defender Ian Maatsen has told Chelsea he doesn’t want to return this summer, and so talks with Borussia Dortmund are now ‘in the early stages’.
That’s according to Sky Sport Germany, who say the full back is likely to remain at Borussia Dortmund if all goes to plan.
They explain that his current loan deal with the German side expires at the end of the season, but the Dutchman wants to stay where he is and not return to Chelsea. This is something he has already communicated to the Blues.
Fortunately for him Dortmund are also keen on a further cooperation, but the big problem is that they cannot pay the clause in his current loan deal, which is set at €35-40m.
An agreement between them and Chelsea is still in the works but according to Sky’s information, talks and negotiations are underway and in the early stages.
The plus point for Dortmund is that Chelsea may be open to a negotiation as they need to raise funds due to PSR issues from their recent spending and Maatsen is one of the youth prospects who can help bring in pure profit.
It’s all to be worked out really but it seems they think an agreement is possible, particularly with Maatsen taking his stance.
