Salzburg is awaiting Celtic supporters ahead of Brendan Rodgers’ team facing Red Bull in the Europa League this week.
On the pitch, the Austrian media feel Red Bull Salzburg shouldn’t have too tough a time with Celtic. Being in good form, Red Bull are already seven points clear at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga after just nine games.
Off the pitch, the local authorities are planning. There’s no great alarm, and Antenna Salzburg quote police spokesman Hans Wolfgruber as saying: “It is unlikely that high-risk fans will arrive.”
On the other hand, Salzburg24 says 100 ‘so-called risk’ fans are expected on Thursday out of 1500 (at least those with tickets) travelling fans. So a risk, but not a high one.
Interestingly, it’s reported that, as it stands, there’s no Celtic fan march planned through Salzburg. The assumption would be this kind of thing is more common in Austria because they don’t say it’s specific to Celtic, and don’t expect fans of the Scottish Premiership club to do it.
However, in case Celtic fans change their mind and decide to march through the city, the police have plans to manage it.
