Back in February, we covered a report by L’Equipe claiming Celtic Glasgow were ‘convinced’ they wanted to sign Rennes’ Benoit Costil, and were preparing an offer ‘in the coming weeks’.
With Chelsea clearly intent on signing Craig Gordon during January, you wouldn’t put it past the Blues to try again in the summer, and Brendan Rodgers might have to replace his number one goalkeeper one way or another.
Selling Gordon would bring in some money, while the Frenchman, whose contract with the Ligue 1 side runs out in the summer, will be available on a free.
However, luring him to Celtic Park might be a bit trickier than first expected, as revealed by France Football on Tuesday, with the French magazine claiming the goalkeeper is already in ‘successful’ talks with Bordeaux regarding next season.
All this despite two clubs playing European football, Celtic and Fiorentina, enquiring about his services for a summer transfer.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper has enjoyed a solid career in France, even picking up his first international cap back in November 2016, and with his deal at Rennes coming to an end, this seems like the perfect time to give football abroad a go.
That is, of course, unless he prefers to play in the south-west of France rather than Florence or Glasgow.
There’s still time, but it seems like this one might be currently slipping through Brendan Rodgers’ and Celtic’s fingers.
