Manchester United are now pointed out by the Catalan media as one of the clubs who could land Lionel Messi from Barcelona.
Following reports saying the 33-year-old is leaving the Camp Nou, Sport brings the latest updates on the chase for the player.
According to their report, Barcelona believe that Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain are both interested in signing the Argentine star.
The Catalan side are of the opinion Messi’s agents have been checking the possibilities for the future, and only then took the final step for his departure.
Manchester United and PSG would be the clubs who are willing to make a strong effort for his arrival, and would be available to pay a fee in case it’s necessary.
Messi is currently trying to leave Barcelona by rescinding his contract with the club, but there should still be a fight over whether the clause in his deal can be used or not.
The report points out that Messi could have more options as a free agent, but for a fee of around €100m, he could ‘easily’ find a club as well.
Sport writes that ‘in England’, it’s made sure that Manchester United have been in touch with Messi’s staff. But it isn’t clear if they’re referring to English sources or the English media.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan are said to be another club who’ve been in touch with his agents and could afford his signing.
