Earlier this season, Manchester City were handed a two-year ban from European competitions for breaching UEFA’s Financial Fai Play regulations.
The Etihad club decided to appeal their ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and reports coming out of Spain in March suggested City’s appeal is ‘frozen’ at CAS.
Mundo Deportivo, however, now claims the Premier League side’s appeal will begin on June 8th, where they will ‘defend their innocence’.
An appeal can ‘drag on for three days’ as City try to avoid the punishment imposed by UEFA, which includes no Champions League football for two years and a fine of €30m for ‘allegedly having escaped economic regulations’.
If this happens, it will create a lot of uncertainty for not only City, but for the club that is expected to take their place in the next season’s Champions League, if the former’s ban is not overturned.
Manchester United currently occupy that place, but they will face a tough battle form Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Therefore, City and UEFA both want to have a firm decision before the draw of the next season’s Champions League.
