Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has decided against a move for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodríguez.

That’s according to Direct TV Sports journalist Luis Fernando Restrepo, who claims that the Blues boss ‘closes the door’ to the Colombian and has turned his attention elsewhere.

Rodríguez has been linked with a move to Everton since the day Ancelotti arrived, with their need for a new midfielder and the Italian’s attempts to take him to Napoli fuelling the rumour.

A move has not happened thus far, though, and now seems unlikely to, with Restrepo claiming that Ancelotti isn’t interested, thus closing another potential exit route out of Real Madrid, where Rodríguez ‘runs out of room’.

The journalist believes Everton have instead turned their attention to West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, although that seems a little farfetched.

While the Blues may need a central midfielder, Rice does not fit the profile they are looking for, nor would he be available for a price Everton would be happy to pay.

He is also a vastly different player to Rodríguez, which makes the notion of him being Everton’s alternative to the Colombian rather odd, to say the least.
