Fulham striker Carlos Vinícius has been recalling his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.

The 28-year-old was this week interviewed by the Spanish media, and with his words relayed by Record, he talked about his move to Spurs.

Carlos Vinícius commented the short conversation he had with José Mourinho prior to the transfer to Tottenham.

There, the manager gave him the ‘ridiculous’ advice to not bring the traditional Brazilian flip-flops, called Havaianas, to England.

“When they told me about it, they told me that Mourinho would call me and I didn’t believe it. So he called me on FaceTime’ and asked me: ‘So, how are you?’ Don’t wear Havaianas, alright. This isn’t Brazil, it’s very cold here.’ I started to laugh, then sent me a message saying everything was ready to go to Tottenham,” said Carlos Vinícius.

“His call surprised me. Everyone knows Mourinho tough, but when you know the other side there is a Mourinho with a lot of heart. I’m friends with him until today. He’s someone I have a lot of affection for. He helped me a lot at Tottenham.”

Carlos Vinícius was loaned by Benfica to Tottenham in 2020, and the spell lasted one year, with Spurs making no efforts to make the move permanent.

The striker made 22 appearances for Spurs in that season, with ten goals and three assists.

Following his return to the Eagles, he was loaned to PSV for one season. With that also not becoming permanent, he was finally sold to Fulham last summer on a €5m deal.

Despite regularly featuring for Marco Silva’s side, the striker only has two goals and two assists in 22 appearances so far.

His contract with the Whites runs until 2025, with the option for an extra year.
