Altinordu president Seyit Mehmet Ozkan has spoken to media during an event called ‘Economic Situation in Turkish Football’ and has claimed Arsenal are close to signing Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu.
During his speech, the Altinordu chief said his former player could get a move to Arsenal: “Caglar Soyuncu is about to agree with Arsenal. Arsenal asked us for information about youth development.”
Soyuncu has been linked with Arsenal previously, and this week were brought into the equation again in French claims.
In April, Altinordu manager Huseyin Eroglu said: “I think Caglar will go to England at the end of the season. He came from our own academy and is now doing well in the Bundesliga. For me, he’ll go to Manchester United or Manchester City at the end of the year and be one of the best defenders.”
The 21 year old Turkish central defender came through the ranks at the Altinordu academy before signing for Bundesliga side Freiburg two seasons ago. Soyuncu has since become a key player for the German side, but with the prospect of relegation to Bundesliga 2 he may move on this summer.
With doubts over the future of Shkodran Mustafi at Arsenal, Soyuncu could be the one to replace him. Although he may considered one for the future, with Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos linked recently.
This would look like another Sven Mislintat pick.
