Manchester United are busy working behind the scenes on a new manager, with a growing belief that Erik ten Hag will be moved on this summer.
That’s according to ESPN Netherlands analysts Marciano Vink, who says those in charge at Old Trafford are already having conversations about a potential replacement.
Ten Hag has found himself under increasing pressure at Manchester United this season amid a disappointing campaign that has seen him fail to build on a positive start to life at the club last season.
While there have been several plus points, like the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, they have been far outweighed by the negatives, with Manchester United currently sixth in the table, 11 points outside the top four and 22 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Fans had expected more from them this season after they finished third last year and 14 points behind eventual champions Manchester City.
The blame has been mostly laid at Erik ten Hag’s door, with many questioning what the plan is under the Dutchman, who has failed to instil a clear system or style of play to indicate where he may be leading the club.
That, coupled with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team taking charge of football operations at the club has led to an increased belief he’ll be on his way, and Vink insists work is already happening on that front behind the scenes.
“What is certain is that United is very much looking for a new coach,” he said.
“But they are orientating and also having conversations. They are busy. No, you should never do that (return to Ajax).
“A trainer belongs to a certain category. You go from the top of the Netherlands to abroad. In that category you can take a step sideways. But I find a return to Ajax, the club where you come from, a bit difficult.”
