Eintracht Frankfurt are being made to wait to make a move for Burnley striker Wout Weghorst as he delays a decision on his future.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the Dutchman is waiting to finish international duty with the Netherlands before working on an exit from Turf Moor.
The newspaper explains that the Burnley man is Frankfurt’s ‘third striker candidate’ for this summer, with coach Oliver Glasner keen to reunite with the player after a spell together at Wolfsburg.
Weghorst is available on loan and is, therefore, cheaper than other options being looked at by the German club, but the problem is that he’s on international duty with the Netherlands.
A decision on his future will only be made after that, even though Weghorst is ‘desperate’ to leave Burnley before the World Cup in the winter.
He wants to ‘present himself’ for the national team at one of Europe’s top clubs and also has interest from Turkey, although he does not want to go there.
Instead, he wants to see what his options are and then make a decision on where he will go next.
Eintracht Frankfurt are one of the clubs eyeing a move, particularly after speaking to Glasner about the situation, and want the deal wrapped up ‘in the next few days’, so expect this to pick up quickly once the Nations League fixtures are done and dusted.
