Following a few reports from Spain, it’s now time for the Brazilian media to claim that Newcastle United are interested in signing Philippe Coutinho.
According to Goal Brasil, the Magpies are in touch with Barcelona and currently ‘study’ making a bid for the 29-year-old.
Coutinho, however, is obviously loaned to Aston Villa, who have a buying option for him. So Newcastle are aware that the priority belongs to their Premier League rivals.
Even though Steven Gerrard’s side would like a discount in their €40m buying option for the Brazilian, it’s said that the Magpies’ interest now makes it ‘complicated’ for Villa.
Goal Brasil claims that Newcastle are willing to pay the very same €40m fee. They’re said to be ‘aware’ that Aston Villa’s option is the ‘main obstacle’ in their pursuit.
The report claims the Magpies had already been interested in January, but failed to make an attractive bid at the time. Now they could return for the signing.
Meanwhile, according to Goal Brasil, Coutinho wants to stay in the Premier League, where he believes he can keep his best form. It’s said the player has already told Barça about his will to continue in England, while his staff are ‘on hold’ about his future.
