The Brazilian media on Wednesday broke the news about Andrey Santos’ move to the Premier League, as Chelsea reportedly reached a deal with Vasco da Gama for the 18-year-old’s transfer.

It turns out that, as journalist Lucas Pedrosa shares a few more details about the midfielder’s situation, it’s claimed he turned down the chance to join two other English clubs. Those were AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

Those approaches were apparently made at different times. According to the report, Bournemouth made an offer in the summer, when there was only one year left on his contract. The player, however, rejected both the Cherries and Barcelona, choosing to sign a contract extension with Vasco.

Newcastle seem to have joined the race more recently. It’s said the Magpies made an offer, along with Manchester City, but Andrey decided for Chelsea, who placed their bid this week. Now there are only bureaucratic details until the player officially joins the Blues.

Andrey Santos had been playing in Brazil’s second division last season, and Bournemouth and Newcastle certainly did a good scouting job to find his talent there. However, it seems the player felt more attracted by Chelsea, who are now expecting him for his medical.
