Corriere dello Sport are already excited about the January transfer window. In an article in their Sunday edition, the Italian newspaper go with the headline: ‘Market boom at the start of January’ and then cover a whole series of transfers they believe could happen.
One of the stars of the claims is Matteo Darmian, who has been linked with a return to Serie A almost since the summer he left Italy.
Even when things are going well for a player, the Italian media generally think one of their compatriots can never truly be happy overseas, and that’s been the case with Darmian.
The fullback isn’t thought to be one of Jose Mourinho’s most important defenders at Manchester United, and with a contract running until June 2019, Correire dello Sport believe he’d be available for around €15m.
Napoli and AS Roma are linked this time around, but Juventus have also been mentioned by the Italian media recently.
It’s got to be considered unlikely that Mourinho would sanction the player’s exit in January, unless he had someone else coming in for the fullback positions.
But, as ever, there’s confidence in Italy that a deal could be done for Darmian.
