Nathan Tella is currently proving Nathan Jones got it very wrong with him at Southampton, as he starts to find his feet at Bayer Leverkusen.

That’s according to BILD, who say the Bayer Leverkusen winger ‘punishes’ his former coach with his recent performances.

The newspaper explains that Tella ‘really gets going’ in the second half of the season, with three goals and an assist in his last four games.

He is ‘top Tella at a top club’ at this moment in time and making a mockery of Nathan Jones’ refusal to give him an opportunity at Southampton.

The manager had refused to bring Tella back from a loan spell at Burnley in January last year when he almost singlehandedly pushed Vincent Kompany’s side back to the Premier League.

There were calls for him to be brought back to Southampton, but Jones resisted, insisting he was not sure the winger could repeat his performances in the top flight.

That was a ‘blatant misjudgement’, something Bayer Leverkusen’s scouts agreed with, urging the German club to move for him. They did, securing a €20m deal with Southampton and presumably thinking they got something of a bargain.

After a difficult start Tella is now impressing under Xabi Alonso and ‘continues to prove his quality’, recently starting against Bayern Munich and even being called up by Nigeria. All signs that Jones got it very wrong indeed.
