Blackburn Rovers and Luton Town have seen bids for FC. St Gallen’s Willem Geubbels rejected, with Sunderland now expected to add their name to the list of bidders.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Swiss side are showing no interest in selling the 23-year-old in this window.
They explain that Geubbels is considered one of the best players in the Swiss championship and this has earned the striker plenty of admirers.
Bids have already been made, with Luton Town offering €8m and Blackburn’s offer at half of that at €4m. There was also an offer from Union Berlin valued at €6m.
These have all been ‘brushed aside’ by St Gallen, who are counting on the French striker and do not want to see him depart. In fact, they have recruited Jean-Pierre Nsamé to partner him up front.
It remains to be seen whether they can continue to resist the ‘onslaught’ of interested clubs, with Sunderland set to join the hunt. They are attracted to his qualities and preparing a transfer offer for him. There’s no hint on what that would be valued at.
Sunderland will presumably have to offer more than Luton and Blackburn, who have already seen bids rejected out of hand by St Gallen.
