Over the course of Thursday, there have been a number of updates regarding Jorge Mendes’ attempts to move Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus to Manchester City.
In an ideal world, the Premier League champions would sign the Portuguese superstar on a free, but their Turin based counterparts aren’t interested in that.
Ronaldo still counts for about €25m on their books, so that’s the fee they would like for him, as well as all of his salary taken off their wage bill.
The player wants to leave and the club are happy to sell, which makes things a lot easier, and it’s since been reported that Manchester City and the player have agreed on a two-year contract worth around €15m a year post tax.
In the meantime, Mendes was trying to put together an offer of around €25m from the Etihad’s end in order to convince Juventus to let their star go and complete the move.
Asked about the deal, a source confirmed to Sport Witness that ‘negotiations are going on’, with them being ‘a bit advanced’, although ‘nothing was closed yet’.
As for whether the deal would involve players, as Juventus wouldn’t mind Gabriel Jesus in exchange, or if Ronaldo would move without a transfer fee, they said the move wouldn’t be free and no counterparts would be involved.
