On Tuesday, we covered a story from Jornal de Notícias which claimed Newcastle United have offered €40m for Sporting striker Bas Dost. The newspaper didn’t make a fuss about it, and only included the information in an article which had updates on other situations.

But it seems other outlets have gone after this information, because both A Bola and Diário de Notícias show up confirming the Newcastle offer today. Each one in their own way.

A Bola claims the Magpies have made an approach showing they can pay €40m for the player, but Sporting’s answer is that he’s only leaving for his €60m release clause. The newspaper doesn’t say it was an official offer.

Diário de Notícias, however, claims it was an offer coming through an intermediary, preparing the situation for Newcastle to pay €40m for the striker. But as all the other outlets say, it was turned down.

The newspaper claims that even if Newcastle choose to activate the release clause, Sporting will still try to convince the player to stay. That’s how much they want to keep the Dutchman who scored 35 goals for them last season.
