Standard Liege midfielder Isaac Price has admitted they’re concerned about Brighton and Hove Albion potentially recalling Steven Alzate this month, as he’d be a major loss for them.
The youngster has been speaking to DH Net in Belgium in an interview this week as the Belgian side prepare to return to action and the second half of the season.
Like most clubs, they may find themselves reshaping their squad in this window, particularly if they lose Alzate.
The midfielder has been on loan at the Belgian side since September 2022, with that deal extended last year after his first year proved to be something of a difficult one thanks to various injury issues.
A report earlier this month stated that Brighton could look to bring him back this month and sell him on, with Rangers, thanks to manager Philippe Clement, a potential destination for him.
That would make sense for Brighton as his contract expires in June and this window is the last opportunity for them to make any money in a sale.
Price would be disappointed to see that happen, though, admitting that losing Alzate would be a big loss for him and his teammates.
“It would be a big loss for us if he left. As soon as he arrived, he impressed me with his ball skills,” he said.
“He understands the game, he is calm and structured and gives us confidence in the middle. It would be a big blow if he left. He gave me a lot of advice.
“On and off the field, we are friends. But he doesn’t really need to give me advice because I learn a lot by watching him play, seeing how he moves on the pitch.”
