Manchester United may have been handed a major boost for their clash with Real Sociedad after star forward Mikel Oyarzabal pulled up with an unknown injury in training.
That’s what Diario Vasco report today, stating that there is concern the Spanish side may be without their star man for the foreseeable future.
Manchester United are set to take on Sociedad in the first leg of their Europa League last 32 clash next week, with the return leg scheduled for a week later.
They head into that game as favourites but will have been wary of a La Real side brimming with talent, including star man Oyarzabal, who has 12 goals and six assists in 25 games so far this season.
However, the Spaniard may be set to miss both games with DV reporting that he was the centre of attention at training after pulling up with a thigh injury.
They explain that the forward stopped suddenly during an intense two on two exercise, holding his thigh and immediately leaving the training field with a ‘disgruntled look on his face’.
The sequence of events has raised concerns on two fronts, with Sociedad worried about an injury but also that it may be a reoccurrence of an older one too.
The area in which Oyarzabal was holding is the exact same place in which he suffered a Grade 1 injury on December 3rd, a injury that saw him miss six games; as a result, the same amount of time he’s missed in the previous five years.
That absence also saw his side draw three and lose three without him and a similar spell on the sidelines here would see him miss both games against Manchester United and a clash with Real Madrid.
At the moment there has been no clarification on the injury, but that is expected in the next few hours, with Sociedad praying it’s a false alarm and nothing to worry about.
