Last week, Argentine media TyC Sports pushed an article claiming that Marcelo Bielsa was interested in five of his compatriots to bolster his Leeds United squad ahead of what will be a tough Premier League campaign.
Among those was ‘one of his favourites’ Nicolás González, currently under contract at VfB Stuttgart, who recently got promoted back to the Bundesliga.
The striker, who already wanted to leave the club last year, is still pushing for an exit, according to Kicker, who also name Leeds as a suitor of his.
The Elland Road club will face a number of clubs as competition for the 22-year-old, as Milan, Inter, AS Roma, Lazio, Atalanta and Napoli are all keen on what the Argentine has to offer.
As for the price, Kicker believe a fee of ‘around €20m’ will be needed to convince Stuttgart, who know they will find it hard to replace his goalscoring output, as he bagged 14 in 27 league appearances as well as assisting another three.
It’s a tough ask for Leeds, especially with clubs of that renown providing competition, but if they’re willing to go toe to toe with Lille for Jonathan David, they probably have the money to convince the newly promoted German side to part ways with González too.
