Playing most of his football in South and North America, Diego Latorre had a 19 season career he can be proud of.
Spending a good chunk of it at Boca Juniors (seven campaigns) as well as representing Argentina six times, the now 51-year-old is a commentator for Fox Sports, and has a voice many in that area of the world will recognise.
That means he’s listened to, so when he sat down for an interview with Leo Burgueño, relayed by Al Aire Libre in Chile, there was always going to be a question about Alexis Sánchez, who famously chose to move to Manchester United instead of Manchester City.
The player himself admitted, following his move away from Old Trafford, that he felt almost immediately he’d made a mistake by teaming up with José Mourinho, which is echoed by Latorre.
He said: “He made Arsenal fans happy. I think he made a bad decision when he went to Manchester United. He should have gone to Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola, who understood him more.
“He went to a team where they expected and hoped a lot from him, whereas where he was before, everything happened naturally. He had three brilliant years.”
During his three years at the Emirates, Sánchez scored 80 goals and assisted another 45 in 166 appearances, while his time at Manchester United was far less prolific, finding the back of the net five times and assisting another nine goals in 45 appearances.
What his numbers could have looked like had he gone to Manchester City instead will never be known, but he’s already surpassed his Old Trafford numbers at Inter in one fewer appearance, where he has been since last year.
